Search a PDF for the words and details that must not leave — names, email addresses, phone and card numbers, account numbers — and remove them permanently. The saved file is read back and searched again, so you know the text is gone.
A black box drawn over text leaves the text in the file for anyone to copy. Redaction here takes the characters out of the page, destroys picture pixels under the mark and drops comments under it.
Besides the words you type, it can look for every email address, phone number, card number (checked against the card checksum), IBAN, US Social Security number, web address or date in the document.
Once the file is written it is opened again and searched for everything that was redacted, and the result screen tells you what it found.
Gone. The characters are removed from the page content itself, so they cannot be selected, searched or copied — and the tool checks the saved file to confirm it.
A scan has no text to search. Run it through OCR first, or black out areas by hand with the editor’s Whiteout, which destroys the pixels under the mark.
Files are processed by your browser and never uploaded, so the document stays on your device.
